It was on CBS from 1984-1996 and at its highest peak drew 23 million viewers each week. Now, NBC is bringing it back.
Murder, She Wrote is coming back from the dead. NBC is rebooting the long-running mystery series, with Oscar winner Octavia Spencer set for the lead role. Spencer's best known for her role as Minny, the outspoken maid in the 2011 film The Help Spencer will play a hospital administrator and amateur detective who has self-published her first mystery novel. Fascinated by the sensational true crimes flooding the news, she decides to participate in the investigations. The original Murder, She Wrote aired for 12 seasons on CBS and at its peak brought in 23 million viewers per episode.
NBC hasn't had a great track record bringing back old TV series, having just cancelled IRONSIDE, first done in the 80s with Raymond Burr.
