The Empire Steakhouse in New York City is having a five-course New Year's Eve dinner for two with a price tag of $10,000. The menu includes two pounds of Osetra caviar and a poached pear salad with goat cheese and macadamia nuts, followed by wine, lemon sorbet, Kobe steak and a South African lobster tail with black truffle. For dessert? A three-layer chocolate torte served with cognac pudding. The meal is served with a 2010 bottle of Chateau Lafite Rothschid. The restaurant owner said, "The economy is improving. People come ready to spend the money... Especially for New Year's Eve, people want to do something special -- to celebrate with some of the best food and wine."
Or maybe they'd rather feed the homeless?
