We have cars that park themselves and can see behind you as you back up...but a car that drives itself? It's coming.
Nissan announced this week that they intend to have a self-driving car by the year 2020. The company is working with several top universities, including MIT and Stanford, to develop Autonomous Drive technology, which they are testing in Japan. They promise it’ll be ready to unveil by 2020. Its Autonomous Drive takes a 360 degree view of the car and if the driver does not take action if the sensors see danger, it will take over. Once it’s available, drivers will be able to use Autonomous Drive in their current vehicles. Nissan estimates it will cost about $1,000 to add the technology to a luxury sedan. The future is now! Well, soon, at least.
